Just a quick reminder, sign-ups for the Indian Summer Mystery Charm Swap will start tomorrow, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20TH AT 1:00PM PST. See you then!
--------------------------------------------------
Lately, there has been a lot of Cerise on my blog thanks to the Craftsy BOM. I finished March and May last month, officially getting myself caught up (woot!) and then promptly forgot to blog about it. -Sigh- Such is life. So I decided that instead of posting March and May separately from June, I would do one mega post, packed with so much Cerise you may need to advert your eyes periodically to give them a rest. ;) I understand. Take your time. The hot pink awesomeness is almost (just almost) too much to handle in one sitting. I do wonder what the finished quilt will look like though, and if it will be safe to stare at directly!?
March was all about string blocks, so we made a classic version and a Broken Spider Web block. The impulsiveness of these blocks was a great change of pace from my usual method of working--plot and plan--and also a good way to scrap bust.
Since I have been working on this quilt along a bit out of order (naturally), April was done ages ago. I made two hexi blocks that you can check out here if you missed them.
May was all about the log cabins, so we made a Modern Log Cabin and a Wonky 5-Sided Log Cabin block, both using improv piecing and scraps.
May was also the official half-way point for the block making portion of the quilt along, since November and December will be dedicated to finishing the quilt. I feel like I still have a pretty healthy stack of fabrics to get me through the rest of the months due to the scrap friendly blocks made during the spring. I really liked making these too since I was able to plan less and just go with the flow. I could totally see myself making a whole quilt of any of these.
And finally, June was dedicated to nine patches, so we made a Greek Cross and an Octagon block. Both of these were pretty easy to sew and I like them well enough as stand alone blocks, but they would each really shine when repeated in a quilt top of just those blocks. The resulting patterns would be pretty interesting I think.

Finally, I can officially say that I am completely caught up now and ready to start July in couple weeks. Since this is about the half-way point, I thought that this would also be a good time to throw all of the finished block together into a mosaic to see how the quilt is coming along. You may want to grab your sunglasses before proceeding. ;)
On a completely unrelated note, my Have A Hoot Embroidered Owl Cushion was featured yesterday on The Vintage Sheet Blog (I was pleasantly surprised to see it in my blog reader). You can read the post here and check out all of the other owl inspired vintage sheet projects that were also featured. I am still working on the pattern for this little guy (it's taken me a bit longer than I anticipated) but I should have it ready for pattern testing soon. :) Thanks for being patient!

ReplyDeleteThe colours in the blocks are so warm and bright. Lovely blocks. Di x
ReplyDeleteThere's very little hot pink in my house - pink of any kind for that matter - so this is a bit of an overdose for me!! Just kidding of course, I've told you before how much I love the Cerise!
ReplyDeleteI'm really in love with this colour combination. I know I"ve said that before, but I can't get enough! Going to have to get some, me thinks!
